All Party Group update | Print |  E-mail
Tuesday, 15 May 2007
Since the last issue of Industry Link the All Party Group on Nuclear Energy have had two successful meetings in Westminster as well as a fact finding visit to France. In January a well attended debate on the UK’s future energy policy was held featuring Robert Armour of British Energy; Vincent de Rivaz of EDF Energy; and Bob Taylor, of E-ON UK.

February saw four members of the group, accompanied by NIA Chief Executive, Keith Parker and former group chairman, now Trade Unionists for Safe Nuclear Energy (TUSNE) Director, Bill Tynan, visiting several Areva sites in France. The group saw Areva’s activities including reprocessing at La Hague, MOX fuel fabrication at MELOX and heavy reactor engineering at Chalon Sur Soane.

At the April meeting David Powell and Mike Tynan of Westinghouse presented their view of how new build may proceed in the UK and the benefits that modern reactors can provide. They also outlined the current operations at the Westinghouse fuel plant at Springfields as well as future plans for the facility.

Future meetings will include examination of the Energy White Paper.
