The Health and Safety Executive’s Nuclear Installations Inspectorate is holding a public consultation on regulating the design of nuclear power stations in the UK.

The Health and Safety Executive's Nuclear Installations Inspectorate is holding a public consultation on regulating the design of nuclear power stations in the UK. his follows a request from the Department of Trade and Industry (DTI), as part of the Government's Energy Review, for advice on the potential role of pre-licensing assessments of power station designs. The deadline for receipt of comments is 28 April 2006.
NII is also holding a consultation on its revised Safety Assessment Principles (SAPs). The revision project has 2 objectives: to benchmark the NII SAPs and Technical Assessment Guides(TAGs) against IAEA Safety Standards and to take into account the needs of the future remediation and decommissioning activities of the UK nuclear industry. The consultation will run from 3 April to 31 May 2006.
