DIRECTOR TECHNOLOGY & OPERATIONS, BNFL
Dr Sue Ion, Director of Technology & Operations for British Nuclear Fuels plc. She is currently responsible for the BNFL Group's overall investment in Research and Technology being a recognised world expert on nuclear fuel. She was one of the four international experts asked to review the Japanese plans for future Fast Reactor fuel cycle R&D in January 1999. Dr Ion was 1993 winner of the UK's Hinton Medal for outstanding contribution in nuclear engineering. A Fellow of the Royal Academy of Engineering, the Institute of Materials and Institute of Nuclear Engineers, Dr Ion is also a member on various International/National bodies including the IAEA's Standing Advisory Group on Nuclear Energy (SAGNE). Born in Cumbria, Dr Ion's PhD in Dynamic Recrystallisation of a Magnesium Alloy was gained at Imperial College, London. |
