MINISTER OF STATE FOR INDUSTRY AND ENERGY, DTI
Brian Wilson MP was appointed Minister of State for Industry and Energy on 11 June 2001 with responsibility for Brian Wilson has responsibility for industry, including engineering industries and the construction industry, environment policy, energy policy (coal, oil and gas, nuclear and renewable energy) and BNFL. He has been MP for Cunninghame North since 1987 and became Minister of State at the Foreign and Commonwealth Office in January 2001. His responsibilities included Trade, The Middle East and Africa. Prior to this, he was Minister of State at the Scotland Office during 1999 and also chaired a Cabinet Office committee on trade policy issues across Whitehall. Mr Wilson was Minister for Trade at the Department of Trade and Industry 1998-99. From May 1997 - July 1998 Mr Wilson was Minister of State at The Scottish Office with responsibility for Education and Industry. Mr Wilson was an Opposition front bench spokesman on Scottish Affairs (1988-92); on transport (1992-94 and 1995-1997); and on trade and industry (1994-1995). Before entering Parliament Mr Wilson was a journalist and founded the West Highland Free Press. Born in 1948 in Dunoon, Mr Wilson was educated at Dunoon Grammar School, Dundee University and University College, Cardiff. |
